After the release of information that Dancing With The Stars sent out memos to the competitors about who would be let go and who will be coming back confirmed my suspicions that they are as fake as the day is long. Furthermore, why in the hell do I care who got voted off or what the contesetants had to eat this week to win the money? One main draw to these shows are the inevitable trainwrecks that probably will and did occur. Take the Osbournes for instance. Most people watched to see how smashed Ozzy was as heself medicated and his kids try and one up each other in more and more outrageous fashions. Sadly, the people that watch these programs feel connected in some way to these nut cases. What does that say about us as a society? Some of these shows deliberately place people with serious character flaws/issues in a confined space with otheers that have the same problems. What do they expect to happen, really? That trainwreck I was talking about earlier. Here's the best part... These incompetent nit wits walk away with millions of dollars, fame to go with it and the knowledge that some suckers like us will sit in on a Saturday night and watch it!! Realizing makes me question who is really more pathetic? Us watching or the people on the show itself? Any thoughts?
I like the fact that you brought up "what would your family think?" I know i would feel like I would have disgraced my family by going on a reality tv show and embarrass myself just to make millions of dollars. Sorry, my morals and values are much more worthed going on the air to show how drunk I can get or how many guys I can sleep with. No thank yo
ReplyDeleteI'd have to agree with you about the Real World being the fore father of Reality TV. It went way downhill after all that
ReplyDeleteJeff, all I hear is jealousy. I think you want to be on reality TV to collect all that money, but who wouldn't. Just like the cult of the amatuer, these people off the street are taking the spotlight off the true actors. Great blog, I can't wait for #4.
ReplyDeleteThe public loves train wrecks. That's why the audition shows are so popular on American Idol. We love to see the next wanna be stand up and make a fool out of them self. Then a "judge" can say all the things to them that we wish we had the balls to say to people. People watch TV to escape reality, so watching reality tv is really a misnomer. This garbage is far from reality. PS. These people don't make millions, they make thousands. Would you embarrass yourself or your family for $50, 000?
